Defending champions George Lamming advanced safely into the quarterfinals of the 2015 Berger Royale/Cave Shepherd National Primary Schools Road Tennis Championships when they won their Zone 8 at Blackman and Gollop Primary yesterday.

George Lamming defeated St Catherine’s 3-0 and also registered similar results over St Jude’s and Caribbean Mind Institute Preparatory. George Lamming were represented by Thierry Toppin, Ajani Roach, Aaron Weatherhead, Damani Blenman and Azari King.
The Bridge Road, St Michael school got their stiffest competition from St Jude’s with each opponent getting into double figures. Toppin defeated Jaheem Elliot 21-18 in a stirring battle. Roach got the better of Tyrease Holder 21-13 and Blenman took out D’Angelo Grosvenor at 13.
They got less resistance from St Catherine’s with Weatherhead beating Ryheem Mason 21-8, Toppin disposing of Zachari Maynard 21-5 and Roach beating Damani Trotman 21-4.
Against Caribbean Mind Institute Preparatory, Toppin knocked off Nikola Bradshaw 21-3 while Roach defeated Oshea Massiah 21-3. King also had an easy win over Shontel Jacobs with a 21-2 sow.
In other results St Catherine’s defeated the Caribbean Mind Institute Preparatory 3-0 but went down 0-3 to St Jude’s. St Jude’s also defeated the Caribbean Mind Institute Preparatory School 3-0 with Elliot having the distinction of delivering the first 21-0 sow in the competition this year when he thrashed Everett Garnes.
Action in Zone 2 tomorrow will complete the preliminary stage of the competition. The schools to feature will be Roland Edwards, Blackman & Gollop, Westbury, St. Silas and L.T. Gay Memorial.
