Blackman and Gollop make quarterfinals

Blackman and Gollop Primary clinched their spot in the quarterfinals of the Berger Royale/Cave Shepherd National Primary Schools Road Tennis Championship today with a 4-0 sweep of their opponents at their Staple Grove, Christ Church home court.

Blackman and Gollop, represented by Nathan King, Jaleeko Rouse-Legall, Joshua Dorne, Lason Grant and Nathaniel Holmes, got the better of St Silas, Roland Edwards, Lawrence T. Gay and Westbury in some keen battles.

Blackman and Gollop first defeated Lawrence T Gay 2-1 with King winning over Raniko Babb 21-12.  This victory came after Rouse-Legall had lost the opening game to Taureen Phillips 21-15. In the decider Dorne scored an emphatic 21-7 victory over Kaleb Francis.

The home side defeated Westbury 2-1 but the score line did not tell the story of their dominance. Both King and Dorne dished out sows, defeating Tyrique Moise and Tyler Stuart 21-6 and 21-2 respectively to take a 2-0 lead in the contest. Grant was then defeated 21-16 by Tashawn Weekes in a consolation win for Westbury.

Blackman and Gollop had things much easier against Roland Edwards winning the contest 3-0.

King defeated Khritiano Gibbons 25-23, Dorne beat Shamar Headley 21-9 and  Holmes got the better of Amari Bishop 21-10.

They were again faced with stiff resistance when they encountered St Silas but eventually won 2-1. King defeated Ronaldo Catlyn 21-18 in a stirring contest and this was followed by Dorne turning back the challenge of Malique Griffith at 21-12. However Shae Husbands ensured it wasn’t a clean sweep by beating Holmes 21-14.

In other matches played St Silas defeated Westbury 3-0 , disposed of Roland Edwards 2-1 and also won over Lawrence T Gay 3-0. Lawrence T Gay beat Westbury 3-0 but lost to Roland Edwards 2-1.

Quarterfinals action starts tomorrow. Ellerton take on Hilda Skeene, St Cyprian’s play Wesley Hall, George Lamming play Belmont and Bay Primary battle against Blackman and Gollop. (WG)
