Darius Gaskin turned back a spirited challenge from Aaron Barker to defeat him 18-21, 21-12, 21-19 as action continued last night in the Clash of the Titans Road Tennis Tournament at Coverley, Christ Church.

A stirring battle with some lengthy rallies saw Barker take the first game. But Gaskin, a favourite of many followers of the sport, came storming back to the delight of the crowd to take the second set rather comfortably.
The third set was the best of the game with much at stake and neither player willing to concede. In the end Gaskin’s greater display of patience and fewer errors saw him eke out a narrow victory.
The final game of the night was expected to be a closer affair between Curtis Jones and Lloyd Burke. But in the end the seeded Jones, who has caused some upsets in the past against some of the top players, easily disposed of Burke in straight sets 21-10, 21-16.
Edwin Ward also advanced in the competition when he defeated Wayne Grazette 21-14, 21-18.
In other results, Beresford Jones was beaten by Andrew Hinds 21-16, 21-17; Peter Moore won 21-12, 21-8 over Errol Edwards; Abigail Haynes defeated Andisha Howell 21-7 and 11-4 after Howell retired in the second
set; and Cherene Ward beat Jalesa Holder- Vaughan 21-18, 21-9.
Round of 16 action continued tonight and will also feature tomorrow night starting at 7 p.m.
